Great gardening weather

 At long last it was warm enough to get my tomato plants outdoors for a bit of hardening off. I've planted a couple of different courgette plants outdoors in a big planter and covered it with a perspex sheet as it's really far too soon for them to go outside. It'll be interesting to see if they survive and give me early courgettes.

Blimmin weather

 Just when I think it's starting to pick up a bit and I'll be able to get out in the garden it turns cold. We've brought Tony's Tree Fern and my avocado trees back indoors for a week or two. Poor things must have been perishing cold these past few days.  I have tomatoes swelling on a couple of tomato plants so hopefully it won't be too long before we're eating our own and not shop bought ones

Second Greenstalk

 The other day I filled my second Greenstalk with compost and transplanted some lettuce. Then I sowed early carrots and radish. I'm leaving the bottom tier for tumbling  tomatoes and strawberries 

Greenstalk Vertical Planter in my porch

 I've had fun planting up the Greenstalk in my entrance porch this morning. It's swallowing up huge amounts of plants in such a small space that I've run out of things to put in it for now. My tumbling tomato plants will be going in there as soon as they're a bit bigger and I've several varieties of basil ready to pricking out and pot on into the Greenstalk when they're a little bigger.

Crikey it's cold.

 Just when I think things are starting to warm up we get a really cold night. It'll be even colder tonight when it drops to zero. I've had to put my temperature monitor in the conservatory and when it drops down below 10 degrees in there the heating will kick in. It's only for a few days to keep all my seedlings warm but it's not something I've ever done before. It's usually warmer at night than that but it's been a weird start to spring this year. Tony and I are invigilating this afternoon but I was awake at my usual time so I'm heading out for a walk soon with my friend. 

Making changes in the garden

 Yesterday I decided that I'm fed up of the grass and finally got around to doing something about it. I put down a thick layer of cardboard directly onto the grass and then moved my three cold frames onto the cardboard.  I covered any visible cardboard with a thick layer of pine chippings but unfortunately I ran out of both part way through the job. I'll get some more tomorrow and finish it off.

 It's ages since I updated this blog and now that I've bought a Greenstalk Vertical Planter I intend to keep all post relating to it over here on my veg plot blog. I want to record all my successes and failures both here and on  YouTube. I'm so impressed with these Vertical Planters that today I ordered another and reserved a 3rd.
